Simple Tips to Host the Perfect Holiday Get-Together

The holidays are here and it’s the perfect time to show off your skills as a party planner and host. Even if you aren’t as blessed as others in the party planning department, that doesn’t mean you can’t pull off the perfect holiday get-together anyway. A holiday party can be as simple or as elaborate as you want, so let your creativity flow and get into the holiday spirit with these simple tips to hosting the perfect holiday get-together.

5 Tips to Host the Perfect Holiday Get-Together

Make a List and Check It Twice
Planning a holiday get-together is no easy feat. But when you make a list, it makes sure makes it a lot easier. Lists are great for organization and getting a visual on what you’re going to have to do to accomplish your holiday party vision. This simple tip can save you from forgetting napkins or an ingredient in your grandma’s famous gingerbread cookies.

Plan a Gift Exchange
If you want to have some fun at your holiday party, arrange a gift exchange. Have everyone come to the party with a wrapped gift. Make sure you assign a maximum dollar value for the gift and tell your guests to make the gifts unisex. The most popular form of this is a White Elephant style exchange, where gifts are exchanged amongst friends and family in a fun and interactive way.

Deck the Halls
Playing host for the holidays entails decorating. And you mind as well go big! This is your one time of year to bring out your ornaments and awesome Christmas decorations. If you choose a color theme, you can match your decorations to all of the tableware. There’s no such thing as too much holiday spirit, at least in my book, so go all out and deck the halls of your home.

Make Easy yet Delicious Food
The type of food you’re going to serve at your holiday party is going either going to make or break your holiday party. When selecting the menu for your party, think about foods you can make ahead of time or that require little to no prep work. There are sorts of different recipes for appetizers and finger foods that you can find, but if all else fails, a nice charcuterie spread is also a great way to go. Soups and stews can be prepped ahead of time and things like a roast can cook in the oven while you’re playing host. Pick simple dishes that you can execute easily and watch your hosting stress decrease immensely.

Let the Sleigh Bells Ring
The perfect holiday get-together has to have the perfect holiday soundtrack. There are radio stations that play music continuously if you want to set your radio and forget about it for the rest of the evening. Or if you’re one of those people that loves holiday music and you’re tech savvy, you can make a playlist for all your guests with everything from new age hits to old Christmas carols. Whatever your holiday music tastes are, let them shine.
